What Types of Content are Available on Instagram?

Instagram offers four types of posts:

1.Posts Shared to Followers Feed

Brands and users can upload static photos or short videos and share them on their profile. These shares will be available for others to see on your account profile, and will also be used to populate the Instagram feed of your followers.

2.Instagram Live Videos

As the name suggests, Instagram Live allows you to broadcast a live video stream to any of your followers that are currently using Instagram. They can tune in and watch for as long as you stream.

3.Instagram TV (IGTV)

Instagram TV is a format that allows for the uploading of longer content. In contrast to the much shorter Instagram Stories, IGTV content can be up to 60 minutes long and won’t disappear after 24 hours.

4.Instagram Stories (IG Stories)

Instagram Stories have become THE dominant feature of Instagram users. According to statistics from Instagram more than 500 million Instagram stories are shared daily.  Part of the reason IG stores have become so popular is because it’s easy to apply filters, add gifs and so on. In a nutshell, everyone can create fun and engaging videos or still images with just a few edits and share them for up to 15 seconds each via IG Stories. One of the best things about IG Stories is that they disappear after 24 hours, creating a constant ‘Fear of Missing Out’ and ensuring that users stay glued to their phones looking for new IG Stories. Brands have long discovered the power of IG stories and up to one-third of the most viewed Stories on Instagram come from business profiles.

Become a creative storyteller

Brands increase engagement rates by becoming a storyteller and becoming more relatable through interesting content and creatives. Instagram offers a suite of video options for influencers, marketers and businesses, and their stories are a great way to mash up video and stills into a single ad. It comes as no surprise that Instagram videos are becoming increasingly more dominant in the online space. One thing to keep in mind, though, is that it’s very common for people to consume Instagram content without sound, which means subtitles are essential for enabling the core message to be delivered on-screen with visuals. Facebook research shows that captioning videos increases average video view times by 12%.
